Terms of Service: Yale Opinion Study

Welcome to the Yale Opinion Study website. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and participation in the research studies conducted by Professor Joshua Kalla of Yale University (collectively, the “Research Team”).
By accessing this website or participating in our surveys via SMS, email, or web, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not participate in the study.
1. ELIGIBILITY AND PARTICIPATION
Participation in this research is limited to individuals who are 18 years of age or older and reside in the United States. Participation is entirely voluntary. You may refuse to participate or stop participating at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled.
2. COMMUNICATIONS AND SMS TERMS
If you have been contacted to participate in a study via SMS (text message):
- Opt-In: By responding to an invitation, you consent to receive research-related text messages from our platform.
- Opt-Out: You may cancel the SMS service at any time. Just text “STOP” to the short code or number from which you received the message. After you send the SMS message “STOP” to us, we will send you an SMS message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from that specific study.
- Frequency: Message frequency varies by study.
- Rates: Message and data rates may apply. Check with your mobile carrier for details.
3. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
All content included on this site and in our surveys—including text, graphics, logos, and data—is the property of the Research Team, Yale University, or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive license to access the site for the sole purpose of participating in the research study.
4. PROHIBITED CONDUCT
You agree not to:
- Provide false or misleading information in survey responses.
- Use any automated system (bots, scrapers) to access the site or submit responses.
- Attempt to interfere with the proper working of the survey platform.
- Reproduce or distribute survey questions or materials without written permission from Professor Joshua Kalla.
5. DISCLAIMERS AND “AS-IS” PROVISION
THE RESEARCH MATERIALS AND WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED ON AN “AS-IS” AND “AS-AVAILABLE” BASIS. YALE UNIVERSITY AND THE RESEARCH TEAM MAKE NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, REGARDING THE ACCURACY OF THE RESEARCH DATA OR THE CONTINUED AVAILABILITY OF THE SITE. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
6. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, YALE UNIVERSITY, PROFESSOR JOSHUA KALLA, AND THE RESEARCH TEAM SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE STUDY OR YOUR USE OF THIS WEBSITE.
7. GOVERNING LAW
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New Haven, Connecticut.
8. CHANGES TO TERMS
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The most current version will always be posted on this page. By continuing to access the site after changes become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Terms.
